Gender in South Africa
Obesity rates have more than doubled in the past 15 years in West Africa, with rates highest among urban women. In sub-Saharan Africa, recent mothers have the double burden of being overweight and undernourished. In South Africa, more women are overweight than underweight. This holds for both rural and urban areas.
